Treating Children’s Teeth Without Overwhelming Stress

Like many parents, you probably arrive at the dental clinic feeling anxious. You sit down, take a deep breath, and try to focus and calm yourself before the visit—but then you hear a child screaming in fear and pain.

The child isn’t necessarily crying because the procedure is painful or because they are in the hands of a poor dentist. Even in the hands of the best pediatric dental professional in the world, treatment can still provoke overwhelming fear in a young patient, which is difficult to manage while they are conscious.

But have you ever considered that there could be an effective solution to help a child undergo dental treatment calmly while allowing everyone around them to remain relaxed?

If you dream of smooth and stress-free dental visits, we can make that possible at our clinic.

You may have heard of sedation. Chances are you haven’t, but don’t worry. Sedation—conscious relaxation—is often used for children who are anxious about dental procedures. It is a safe, modern, and highly effective way to prepare a child for a calm and uninterrupted procedure—and the best part is, this innovative service is now offered at our clinic!

For those who are curious about how effective this method really is, here’s a bit more detail.

During intramuscular sedation, the child first takes “courage drops” orally. Then, the anesthesiologist administers an additional dose of medication into the muscle, which makes the patient almost fall asleep. This is not general anesthesia (commonly known as “narkozė”), because the child breathes independently without the need for equipment. The most important thing is that the child does not remember the dental treatment process, which is usually the main source of stress and fear. After all, who wants to relive each procedure so intensely, right?

With sedation, our qualified specialists can also work more efficiently during the visit. Consider this: the final result—treating cavities—can be done with higher quality because the child remains calm and cooperative while the dentist works.

Another huge advantage of intramuscular sedation is that all decayed teeth can be treated in a single visit. All of them! This saves time, as multiple visits to the clinic are not needed. More time for your child—and for you!

Of course, we want to be open and honest: this procedure takes a bit longer than a typical visit—approximately 2–3 hours. But think about how your child will feel afterward. After just one visit, the pain and discomfort caused by cavities will be completely gone!

Preparing for Sedation

It is important to discuss preparation for sedation, as this is arguably the most important part—for you. It is crucial because all you need to do is prepare, and we will take care of everything else. Preparation is not difficult, long, or exhausting, but there are a few key points you should know.

First, six hours before the procedure, the child must not eat or drink milk. Three hours before the procedure, they must not consume any liquids or suck on lollipops. It is also essential to inform everyone at home to ensure the child is not fed or given drinks. And of course, make sure the child does not do so themselves.

Do not take any risks—notify the dentist if, in the past 14 days, the child has had a cold, cough, fever, or any illness.

Now that you know almost everything about sedation, the next time your child needs dental treatment, we invite you to visit our clinic and try this method—something that not long ago would have been unimaginable.

With sedation, your little one experiences no pain, and everyone around enjoys undisturbed peace of mind!
